AAPL: ‘Retina’ Laptop Boosts Average Sales Price, Says Raymond James

Raymond James‘s Tavis McCourt this afternoon reiterates a Buy rating on shares of Apple (AAPL) and an $800 price target, writing that the company’s latest MacBook Pro, using a higher-resolution display the company calls the “Retina Display,” has boosted the company’s average sales price for laptops displayed in Amazon.com (AMZN) online store listings.

McCourt writes that the MacBook has leapt to the number ten spot in Amazon’s best-selling laptops ranking since it was introduced, and put on sale, a week ago Monday. The average price of the particular configuraration, $2,794, boosts Apple’s average price skew versus competing laptops:

Average ASP for Apple laptops in Amazons Top 20 best-sellers is typically 2x non-Apple laptops, but now with the inclusion of the high-priced MacBook Pro with Retina Display, the Apple ASP has increased to nearly 3x ($1,580 vs. $583).

Apple competes against Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Dell (DELL), and other vendors selling computers with Microsoft‘s (MSFT) Windows operating system.

Apple shares today closed up $1.63, or 0.3%, at $587.41.
