Terrell Owens Could Face Jail Time Over Child Support

Former NFL receiver Terrell Owens may be facing a penalty flag from a Georgia county court.

Owens failed to show up for a child support hearing on Thursday. He is being sued by Melanie Page Smith for failing to pay a previously agreed $5,000 per month to support their seven-year-old daughter, ESPN reports.

The Pro Bowl player has missed $20,000 in payments to Smith, whose attorney said this was the third legal action they had filed against Owens in regard to the support payments in the last 12 months.

Owens’ NFL career was sidelined by a knee injury in 2010, and he later signed with the Indoor Football League, playing for the Allen Wranglers. But the team let him go back in May.

Judge John Groger conferred with attorneys for Owens and Smith in chambers after Owens didn’t appear. The hearing has been rescheduled for Thursday with warnings from the judge that Owens could be hit with jail time if he doesn’t show up.

Owens isn’t the only football player dealing with legal problems. Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis has been sued by Makini R. Chaka, who claims he injured her lip and poured juice over her head at a nightclub more than year ago.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Vince Young is suing his former agent and former financial adviser, accusing them of losing $5million he invested with them.
