Green Mountain Bolts Keurig Brewer - Analyst Blog

The leading specialty coffee brewer Green Mountain Coffee Roaster Inc. (GMCR) has introduced its newest Keurig BOLT Café Brewing System that has the ability to brew a 64-ounce pot of coffee in two minutes. With this innovation Keurig brewers go another step forward in its higher volume batch-brewing capacity.

The new Keurig BOLT brewer overcomes the shortcomings of conventional batch brewing systems. The brewer targets medium to large offices, which are potential market for premium brewing systems, where coffee is brewed in large volumes.

Moreover, Keurig BOLT is compatible with food service outlets. In this regard, it is worth mentioning that Green Mountain's Keurig K150 Series Commercial Brewing System was certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) for foodservice use.

The certification ensures that the brewing system meets public health and safety standards intended for commercial foodservice. Products bearing the certification are respected and trusted by the consumers, retailers and regulatory authorities.

After extensive research and testing, the Keurig BOLT brewer will be tested for office usage from Jul 2013. Once it clears the tests, it will be distributed through authorized distributors all over the U.S. and Canada in the fall of 2013.

GreenMountainis planning to turn around its business after its K-cup patents expired in Sep 2012. Apart from launching new products, the company is upgrading its Keurig brewing system. It introduced the Keurig Vue V1200 Brewer and V500 Brewer, designed with RFID (radio frequency identification) technology, allowing users to control the strength, size and temperature of their beverages.

Green Mountain continues to enjoy huge demand despite the expiration of its patents. The coffee roaster's owned and partnered brands are priced at par with Mondelez International Inc.'s (MDLZ) unlicensed Maxwell House and Gevalia single-serve coffee pods compatible with Keurig brewing systems. This has wiped out compet! ition.

Green Mountain is also focusing on competing with private labels. Under the agreement with Costco Wholesale Corp. (COST) the company will produce private-label Costco Kirkland Signature brand K-Cup packs for the Keurig single-cup brewing system.

Green Mountain currently carries a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). Another favorable stocks in the retail and wholesale sector that is worth considering is Flower Foods Inc. (FLO) also carrying a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
